The Teacher of the Year Award was first handed out in 1973. It
is given to an outstanding teacher of family medicine in either
an academic or practice setting. Candidates are nominated by
students and colleagues. Nominators are asked to describe the
candidate’s special teaching qualities and his or her impact on
students and/or residents.
Those who nominated Dr. Springer describe him as knowledgeable,
enthusiastic and dedicated. They say he instills comfort and
ease, allowing students to learn and succeed in a positive
environment.
In
one letter, a nominator wrote “Dr. Springer’s mission is
evident: to graduate highly competent, well-rounded, sincere
family physicians who also have a passion to teach.” Another
wrote, “His depth of knowledge and passion for medicine is as
inspiring as it is helpful.”
Dr. Springer was recognized during the MAFP Spring Refresher at
the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel on April 14, 2011.
