The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has named Dr. Darrell
Carter of Granite Falls as one of five finalists for the 2003 Family
Physician of the Year Award. This award is presented annually to a
family physician who represents the highest ideals of the specialty of
family medicine, including caring, comprehensive medical service, community
involvement and service as a role model.
A long-time Granite Falls resident, Dr. Carter is a physician with
Affiliated Community Medical Centers. The Minnesota Academy of Family
Physicians (MAFP) named Dr. Carter the Minnesota Family Physician of the Year in 2001.
He was also selected as Minnesota Rural Health Hero the same year for his innovative
work, leadership skills, and more specifically, his efforts to establish Comprehensive
Advanced Life Support (CALS) programs in the state.
Dr. Carter, along with physicians from Pennsylvania, Louisiana,
North Dakota, and Iowa, will be considered for this top honor by a
panel of national judges. The winner of the National Family Physician
of the Year Award should be made public this summer.
The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians is a professional
association of approximately 2,700 family physicians, family
medicine
residents and medical students organized to assist family physicians in
providing quality medical care in Minnesota. The MAFP is the largest
medical specialty organization in Minnesota and is a state chapter of the
American Academy of Family Physicians, the largest medical specialty
organization in the United States with more than 93,000 members.
