Student Delegate to the MAFP House of Delegates
Delegates and alternate delegates are elected by each Minnesota medical
school to represent medical students at the MAFP House of Delegates. All students, as
well as the delegates are encouraged to attend the student caucus meeting the
morning of the House of Delegates. The student caucus elects the
student director and alternate directors who serve on the MAFP Board of Directors
for one year.
What is the House of Delegates?
The House of Delegates (HOD) is the policy-making body of the
3,000-member Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians, the specialty
organization for family medicine.
When does the House of Delegates meet?
The House of Delegates meets annually the Wednesday before the
two-day Spring Refresher. The student caucus is from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30
a.m. The House convenes at 9:00 a.m. and adjourns around 4:30 p.m.
What is the role of Delegates?
Represent student members at the House of Delegates, which meets only
one day each year
Elect a student director and alternate director to serve on the MAFP Board of Directors
Involvement in setting policies regarding the future of family medicine
Camaraderie with the specialty’s decision-makers
Experience in a professional association
