The AAFP National Conference for Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students

The National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students is an annual meeting held in Kansas City, Missouri, in July or August.  The conference brings together students and residents from across the United States so they may exchange ideas and explore new ways to generate excitement about family medicine. The meeting gives them the opportunity to provide input on policy-making issues through the reference committees and at the session of the Congress of Delegates. Educational opportunities are available in the form of workshops, roundtable discussions and the research forum. A popular part of the meeting is the exhibit area where students may meet with residency program representatives from all over the United States.

The MAFP Student Director and Alternate Student Director serve as the Minnesota delegate and alternate to the National Conference (funded by the MAFP). Other opportunities for sponsorship to the meeting include the MAFP’s National Conference Scholarship, the U of M Department of Family Practice and Community Health, the AAFP Student Outreach Award, the AAFP Family Medicine Interest Group Award, and being in an AAFP student leadership position.

AAFP Congress of Delegates and Scientific Assembly

The Scientific Assembly is an annual national meeting held each September/October. This meeting serves the entire AAFP membership, including active physicians, residents, and students. This meeting is similar to the National Conference, but much larger in scope. The Congress meets for 2.5 days followed by 4 days of educational sessions. The exhibit hall consists of scientific, technical and recruitment exhibits.
