Media Information

Need the perspective of a family physician for your news story?

Depending on the medical topic, we can provide reporters with names and office phone numbers of individual doctors who may be able to assist you with an upcoming story. If you are looking for a MAFP position on a certain healthcare issue, we will get you in touch with an Academy officer.

Call Kristie Thorson at (952) 542-0130 or (800) 999-8198 or e-mail her at kthorson@mafp.org with requests or questions.

Why a family physician?

Family physicians are specialists. Family practice is recognized as a medical specialty by the American Medical Association and the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Family physicians are trained to treat 85% to 90% of common ailments. For that reason, and because they are generally the first physician a patient sees, family physicians are in a very good position to discuss health care trends and patient education.
