Family Physicians
Minnesota’s family physicians are specialists.  They are trained to treat 85 to 90% of common ailments.  For that reason, and because they are generally the first physician a patient sees, family physicians are in a very good position to discuss health care trends and patient education.  Family medicine is recognized as a medical specialty by the American Medical Association and the American Board of Medical Specialties. 

Mission
The mission of the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) Foundation, as the philanthropic arm of the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians, is to support family physician health care delivery, research, and education; and to promote the specialty of family medicine. 

Programs
The MAFP Foundation fulfills its mission by identifying community programs, and working in partnership with other health organizations, to enhance patient education and services, advance family medicine research, and generate medical student interest in the specialty of family medicine.   For more information about the programs we support please click here.

Funding
Financial support for the Foundation comes from a variety of sources including MAFP member dues allocations.

We also depend on charitable donations from Minnesota’s family physicians, contributions and grants from businesses, corporations and pharmaceutical companies, honorariums, memorial gifts, and proceeds from MAFP Foundation t-shirt sales.
