Facts About Family Medicine in Minnesota
The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians is a professional
association of approximately 3,000 family physicians, family
medicine residents and medical students organized to assist family
physicians in providing quality medical care in Minnesota.
As of
July 31, 2011, the MAFP membership consists of 2,124 family
physicians in active practice, 207 family medicine residents, 314
medical students, 264 life members (over age 70 or retired), 51
inactive members and 0 supporting members for a total of 2,960.
As of
February 3, 2010, the MN Board of Medical Practice reports that
there are 2540 licensed physicians in MN who have specialty
certifications from the American Board of Family Medicine or the
American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians
According
to Minnesota Health Care Home Capacity Assessment Report, published
by the Minnesota Department of Health, dated June 30, 2009, there
are 707 primary care clinics (family medicine, pediatrics and
internal medicine) in Minnesota.
