is a
partnership with the Medical School,
Medical Alumni Society (MAS), Minnesota Medical Foundation (MMF),
and Hennepin and Ramsey Medical Societies. Interested physicians
can contact Emily Heagle for more information. She will make sure

send out letters in August and match physicians with students at
the end of October, and host a kick-off breakfast in
mid-November. Phone: 612-624-9161 or 800-922-1663 e-mail:

Brain
Awareness Week
“is a big
push for kids to get interested in medical science at a young
age. It's also a good way to teach kids about drug abuse,
depression, epilepsy, cancer, strokes, gosh...the list goes on!
They are always FULL of questions about these subjects. It's
really a neat idea.” – UMD student who has participated for 2+
years

Tar Wars
is a nationwide interactive tobacco education program for fourth-
and fifth-grade students. It is designed to discourage tobacco use
among children by giving them an understanding of tobacco’s
short-term effects and the way advertising influences people to
buy and use tobacco products. A state and national poster contest
is a popular piece of the program.
