MAFP Committees

The MAFP is led by its members through committees. All MAFP members are encouraged to join a committee. You may wish to select a committee that will benefit from your experience, training or special interests, help you enhance your skills by working with your peers, or learn more about a topic that interests you.

Academic Affairs Committee

Advises on issues and activities relating to medical students, family practice residents and fellows; Plans the educational sessions for the Residency Program Luau, Deans' Dinner, and customized educational programs for students on each campus (Duluth, Rochester and Twin Cities)

Public Relations and Marketing Committee

Increases MAFP visibility throughout the state; Writes and reviews clinical topic news releases; assists with Tar Wars, Family Doctor Phone Bank, and other MAFP public relations efforts; Maintains the MAFP's visibility in a variety of media to assure an accurate image of family medicine in Minnesota

Continuing Medical Education Committee

Conducts annual Spring Refresher, including speaker, topic and site selection; Plans the Winter Conference through a subcommittee

Practice Enhancement and Patient Advocacy Committee

Advocates for family physicians in all types of practice settings; Encourages family physician involvement in health system reform; Advocates for implementation of the Patient-Centered Medical Home and the New Model of Care; Liaisons with health care delivery systems in public and private sectors and with other medical organizations

Legislative Committee

Makes recommendations regarding MAFP positions on legislative matters affecting family physicians and their patients; Willingness to participate through personal contacts with legislators and assist with legislative testimony

Leadership Development Committee

Develops lists of candidates for MAFP leadership positions and NCSC representatives; Makes personal contact with potential leaders to assess interest

Research and Quality Improvement Committee

Promotes clinical research by family physicians, residents, and students; Plans and promotes annual Research Forum; Works with MAFP Research Network to encourage practice-based research efforts

Membership and Member Services Committee

Guides efforts to recruit and retain members in the MAFP; Reviews membership services, proposes new services and surveys the membership; Guides communication to members via the website and newsletter
