The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) presented
Lindsey Chmielewski with the 2011 Medical Student Award for
Contributions to Family Medicine. Chmielewski is a fourth-year
medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
The Medical Student Award recognizes a medical student for
family medicine activities on a local, community, medical
school, state or national level. Candidates are nominated by
teachers and/or fellow students.
Nominators say Chmielewski has been enthusiastic in her desire
to pursue family medicine and to care for the underserved. They
describe her as a person who leads by example and say she has a
strong work ethic and maintains the highest integrity in all of
her activities.
During medical school, Chmielewski completed the Rural Physician
Associate Program while working in Willmar for nine months.
There she was involved with a migrant health services research
project. She also did an elected research project that studied
health care disparities for Latinos as well as a community
service project with the Adult Learning Center working with
English as a Second Language students.
Chmielewski was presented with her award during the MAFP Spring
Refresher on April 14, 2011, at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront
Hotel in St. Paul.
