Invitation to Participate in Asthma Outreach Program

The American Lung Association offers primary care clinicians the chance to take part in an Asthma Outreach Program.

The purpose of this education program is to improve asthma diagnosis and management by primary care clinicians and nurses through the following objectives:

1.      Recognize the importance of diagnosing asthma early and accurately.

2.      Discuss the concept of asthma control at every follow up visit.

3.      Utilize written asthma action plan that includes daily medication management to recognize and respond to worsening asthma.

4.      Discuss the importance of allergen identification.

5.      Counsel patients about environmental trigger control methods.

6.      Teach patients appropriate techniques for medication delivery

Criterion for selection includes offices with a relatively large number of clinicians and clinician enthusiasm for the education program and asthma quality improvement.
