The President-Elect serves as a member of the
Board of Directors and understudies the President to become familiar
with the requirements of that office and to provide continuity. The
President-Elect should become familiar with problems confronting
medicine in general and family medicine in particular and begin to
formulate ideas in these areas to prepare for tenure as President.
The President-Elect is an ex-officio member of
all committees and task forces. The President-Elect serves as a
liaison for the resident and student caucuses.
The President-Elect serves as the MAFP's
alternate delegate to the MMA House of Delegates, attends the annual
meetings of the AAFP Congress of Delegates and Annual Leadership
Forum.
Speaker of the
House of Delegates
The Speaker is the chief presiding officer of
the House of Delegates. The Speaker of the House of Delegates serves
as an officer and member of the Board of Directors and the Executive
Committee. The Speaker shall represent the wishes of the House of
Delegates to the MAFP Board of Directors and officers.
The Speaker shall organize the House of
Delegates meeting including appointing the reference committee chair
and members, assigning annual reports and resolutions to the
Reference Committee for deliberation and report, and appointing
delegates at the time of the meeting to fill any vacancies. The
Speaker shall be responsible for monitoring and stimulating inactive
chapters and delegates to insure representation and communication
from all areas of the state.
Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates
The Vice Speaker assists the Speaker of the
House of Delegates in organizing and presiding over the House of
Delegates and assumes the position of Speaker upon the absence or
request of the Speaker. The Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates
serves as an officer and member of the Board of Directors.
Officer-at-Large
(effective following the 2008 House of Delegates)
The Officer-at-Large shall be a member of the
Board of Directors of the MAFP and the Executive Committee. As a
member of the Executive Committee, the Officer-at-Large shall
liaison to one MAFP standing committee or the MAFP Foundation’s
Board of Directors.
AAFP Delegate
Delegates
represent MAFP at the national level, including the annual AAFP
Congress of Delegates. They report on the activities and major
actions of the Congress to the Board of
Directors
and the House of Delegates and inform the Board of impending
problems or major issues at national meetings. They carry forward
pertinent actions of the MAFP House of
Delegates
to the AAFP Congress.
Delegates consider all issues at the AAFP
Congress thoroughly and fairly by soliciting input from the MAFP
delegation regarding candidates as well as specific issues;
otherwise, to vote for the best interest of the patient, the MAFP
and the AAFP.
Delegates establish contacts with other
delegations, to the end that the needs of the MAFP may be best
served, assist in hosting the Minnesota hospitality room at national
meetings, and promote Minnesota candidates.
AAFP Alternate Delegate
The Alternate Delegates attend all meetings of
the AAFP Congress of Delegates, and act as delegate if needed. The
Alternate Delegates represent the MAFP in all contacts with other
state chapter delegations.
